The Amadeus Quartet was a world famous string quartet founded in 1947, with members Norbert Brainin (1923 - 2005), 1st violin Siegmund Nissel (b. 1922), 2nd violin Peter Schidlof (1922 - 1987), viola Martin Lovett (b. 1927), cello Because of their Jewish origin, violinists Norbert Brainin, Siegmund Nissel and violist Peter Schidlof were driven out of Vienna after Hitler's Anschluss of 1938.
